Alila Villas Uluwatu has long been a favourite for luxury resort hoppers, taking breaths away with its unobstructed beach views and photogenic Balinese-inspired modernist design. When the sun sets behind the Uluwatu cliffs, there’s now a new spot within Alila’s walls for epicureans to enjoy.

A few steps away from the resort’s CIRE restaurant is a set of unassuming wooden doors that swing open to an intimate whiskey bar with an enigmatic allure. Going by the name Batique, the dark and intimate hangout is a stark contrast to Alila’s signature pale limestone look.

Batique deliberately embraces somber aesthetics that are fit for a whiskey bar: plush leather seats, tufted bar stools and teak tables that are the handiwork of talented local artisans. They encircle a U-shaped bar that sits in the heart
of the room.

The first thing about Batique that catches one’s eye - that’s also the work of local craftsmen - is the stunning display of 800 batik copper stamps, or cap (pronounced chap) lining all four walls towards the soaring ceiling. These stamps were custom made in Java, cut and soldered into hand-drawn batik patterns that would later inspire the Batique name.

Staying true to Alila Villas Uluwatu’s ‘slow life’ essence, Batique would appeal most to those seeking a relaxing end to their evening. Choose from an extensive list of single malt whiskeys or cocktails, or treat yourself to one of Batique’s rare collections for a nightcap. Guests are also welcome to embark on a journey of discovery, guided by passionate bartenders who are whiskey enthusiasts themselves.

The Macalan Harmony

Thanks to for those staying in the area, Batique isn’t exclusive to Alila guests. It’s the first whiskey bar in the area, and one of the only spots offering immaculate lounge vibes, making it an ideal rendezvous point that doesn’t require traveling out of Uluwatu.

Whatever your drink or cigar of choice, melt into Batique’s inviting seats and unwind to soft lounge beats for a memorable end to your night in Bali.
