Craig Jones: Jones Picha Hospitality Management

Ketut Alit was impressed by Jones Picha Hospitality Management in a previous project, so when he developed his first hotel, Udhiana Resort Ubud, he called none other than the company’s principal, Craig Jones, to run it. Craig tells Indonesia Design more about Udhiana, his company, and its future plans.

How would you personally describe Udhiana Resort Ubud?
Udhiana Resort is a unique property located on the ravine of the Unda River in Bali. Views of the surrounding lush cliffs leading down to the river are spectacular. The lobby restaurant and tower bar are all uniquely designed to capture the essence of the surrounds. The resort itself has 20 very well appointed villas built to blend into the natural landscape.

How do these villas meet Jones Picha’s criteria?
Jones Picha is primarily a resort-based management company. Criteria includes the ascetics with the locale of the property as well as the complete fit out and services being offered in the property. Facilities for both guests and staff must be and have been met by owners.

What is the key to success in the hospitality business?
Jones Picha offers 30 years of experience in operations, marketing and accounting in the hospitality industry in Indonesia, in particular Bali which as an international tourist destination is world ranked. We provide clients services from original concepts for resorts, technical and pre-opening services during the building stage and subsequently the operation and management of the property.

The most important ingredient in successful hotel and resort management is a good working relationship and understanding with the property owner or investor. Skills we offer here are the conception and operations of resort style properties.

Are there any other properties you manage that you would like share about?
Projects planned to open within the next six to nine months include the new hotel building of Garden View Resort in the heart of Legian. It is a 27-year-old property which I have managed for 26 of them. The property’s original cottage style has undergone three sets of renovations over the years. The new project is a hotel building adding an additional 93 rooms to the property including rooftop ocean view pool and restaurant.

Balangan Wave is also scheduled to be open in the start of 2017. This is a great 48-villa resort in the south of Bali. This four-star resort is close to the world famous Balangan Surf Beach and will include a beach club on the same beach.
