Apart from the obvious – entitled Indonesia Design, our team carries the pride to be Indonesian. Due to the richness of its culture and heritage, we decided to expose one region annually beginning of last year. Published in early September, we chose ‘YogyakARTa’ to be our regional theme this year, focusing on its the art, culture and design. It turned out that our decision lead to a huge success, thus we decided to launch the edition at The Phoenix Hotel, Yogyakarta, inviting every single one of the contributors to our celebration.
Upon arrival, guests were welcomed with wine and refreshing Budweiser Beer at the Hotel’s terrace. There were numerous products being displayed, which included the brands that participated on the edition: Parri Gallery displayed their sophisticated string ray skin goods, Santai Furniture allowed guests to try out his Amben daybed and Kursi Santai, Batik Chaliet and Dowa both displayed their fashion goods, Batik Kayu Krebet demonstrated batik on wood, and lastly Monggo Chocolate also provided chocolate bites for guests. Eye-catching futuristic performance entitled “Body Perspective” by Mila’s Dancers officially opened the party, escorting guests into the ballroom. MC Anang Batas then introduced our editor in chief, Lina Gan to welcome and thank the attendees, especially those who contributed to the edition. Then Thomas Evrard, GM of The Phoenix Hotel delivered a speech, followed by a performance of ‘Sego Kucing’ (Yogyakarta’s street food) to welcome dinner.
As dinner was served our managing editor Anton Adianto shared the story behind our
‘YogyakARTa’ edition. This presentation was then followed by Deborah Iskandar, our ‘Art in Design’ rubric contributor, who talked about Yogyakarta’s art scene. indieguerillas, the hands behind the beautiful illustration on our cover, also had the chance to talk about their recent artworks, including their collaboration with Lulu Lutfi Labibi, who also stole the show with his fashionable trunk show. To wrap the night, we gave away door prizes to the most “Artsy” guest of the night and some lucky guests. Winners brought home vouchers from The Phoenix Hotel and The 1O1 Yogyakarta-Tugu, Rimowa luggage, Dowa bags, Samsung air purifier and gifts from Masriadi Art Foundation.
