Kezia Karin has set herself among distinguished interior designers in the country. Karin has been focusing on luxurious developments such as five-star hotels, high-end residences and premium offices throughout Asia and America for more than a decade. While extending her portfolio, she records the demands and space qualities that are requested by her clients. This adds to her knowledge and comprehension of the space and the furniture.

Having traveled to many places around the world, Karin becomes increasingly proud of her home country, especially its thoughtful design and detailed craftsmanship. “We are witness of Indonesia’s many resources and high capability. Ironically, we only have a few local products that are built with local wisdom and are ready for the international market. This is why I do my part as a designer to develop designs that exhibit our local culture and craftsmanship for the export sectors,” says Karin.

The designer takes inspiration from her childhood home in Yogyakarta. “It was a beautiful colonial-styled house which was fulfilled with beautiful furniture. I don’t want to copy the design but I want to represent the memories. I designed it with a modern approach – you can see it on the clean lines – but we put attention on the details to make it versatile.”

The collection is consisted of several products to evoke the picturesque ambiance. Dhira Dining Table being her favourite with brown glass table top and explicit structures. This table has a size of a dining table, but also ergonomics to be used as a stylish working desk. She also gives multiple functions to Testa Cabinet that can be used for dining wares, or as a chic bookshelf. The Testa Cabinet is paired with Testa Daybed that is outlined with black-finished wood and decorated with rattan weaves. There is also Cassie stool that can be used as a stool and an end table. “We leave the possibility up to your imagination.”

Karin also appreciates the Javanese culture that values privacy. Thus she included a screen in the collection to divide two different areas in a room and create a layering space. It is made with wooden frame with natural-coloured rattan weaves that exhibits our local commodities and inherited craftsmanship. This goes along with the daybed and stool. Some of the products have the option of upholstery by Goodrich Global.

Karin strongly believes in the ability of design in creating experiences, shaping thoughts and influencing lives, which is why all of the products are designed to be in line with today’s modern lifestyle. Although it has a subtle design and colour scheme, the products attract the eyes of the beholder. “To me, to
be stylish and to be a statement, one doesn’t have to be loud,” says Karin. Through this contemporary collection, she invites people to have the nostalgic ambiance in their home while also taking pride in the Indonesian heritage and local craftsmanship. This collection is exclusively available at Laflo.
