Tilda Swinton Designed Korean Eyewear Brand Gentle Monster
You know who Tilda Swinton is, but you probably don’t know that she designed sunglasses. Jaime Hayón designs interiors for Barceló Torre de Madrid hotel
Feeling eclectic? Visit the hybrid Arabic and Moorish hotel, The Barcelo Torre de Madrid. The playful aesthetic is a depiction of the city’s diversity and richness, all set inside a 1957 building. Best-known for his recurring animal imagery, Spanish designer Jaime Hayón chose a jewel-toned colour palette accompanied by remarkable art pieces such as a zebra-striped bear wearing a brass top hat, as a nod to Madrid’s coat of arms. Hayon also collaborated with furnitures and lighting companies, such as the Danish furniture company Fritz Hansen to global design house Gubi. Inside bedrooms, visitors will be greeted by his other art pieces such as a Monkey table, Catch chairs and Palette tables.
Banker’s Desk Lamp Revamp for 2017
Taking inspiration of early 20th-century corporate culture, Mark Moussa of Arterior introduced the Dexter Desk Lamp. 1909 Emeralite Lamp of Harrison D. McFadden became the main muse of Moussa’s creation. He took the glass from the Emeralite’s shade to be the base of the lamp with crystal-poured twist. He also created his own shade brass in keeping Emeralite’s opaqueness. The Dexter does not look like Emeralite in a glance because it offers geometric shape, shorter profile and boxy base which respects the McFadden banker’s lamp for its own traits.
