Keris Empu Sungkowo Harumbrodjo

Keris is a traditional Indonesian weapon which has been part of the country’s culture and identity since our ancestors first learned how to work with metal. Unfortunately, most people now take for granted the process of making these blades, and even their very existence. Most people acknowledge their existence only in connection with the magical realm. Therefore, it wasn’t surprising to discover how difficult it was to find a real keris maker in Yogyakarta. After a thorough search, one name came up, Empu Sungkowo Harumbrodjo, a master blade-smith living in Gatak village, Moyudan, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta.
