Not long ago, I had the opportunity to give a keynote speech at the UIA Conference in Tokyo, where I discussed the characteristics of Japanese chitecture and urban culture from the point of view of language, landscape,nd gathering. The lecture has since broadened my interest in notions about universality in language and architecture that I have observed in recent years.In tracing certain historical parallels in the development of language and architecture: I would like to compare the past to the present and thereby shedlight on the current state of modernism.
