Firenze is regarded as the birthplace of the Renaissance, as well as modern banking, introduced by the Medici family. Painters like Giotto, sculptor Donatello and architect Brunelleschi started the movement, followed by great artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Its center was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, and the city has the largest concentration of Renaissance art and architecture in the world.
