Hotel Santika Premiere Bandara Palembang was designed using green building concepts. In September 2016, Hadiprana Design Consultant began the initial development by first studying the direction of the wind to establish the optimum layout for the main corridors. As a result, the corridors don’t need air conditioner (AC).
In fact, only 60 per cent of the total building uses AC. These parts include guest and meeting rooms, restaurants, offices and the lobby. The corridors also receive plenty of natural light and need only a few lighting points at night. These energy saving features were a good starting point for the green concept.
In addition to solar and wind sourced-energy, the hotel also looked at its water supply to complement its green concept. “We built a detention lake in the backyard area, about three to four-metre deep so that the surrounding area won’t flood, and instead of chemical cleaners we use natural resources such as rocks and geomembranes to purify the lake. The water is used for plant watering and is also transferred as water supply to Java, thanks to the infrastructural collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works,” says Steffi Tjandra, director of PT Parman Persada, the owning company and the contractor.
The curved building of Hotel Santika Premiere Bandara Palembang consists of five levels. There are 155 guest bedrooms with a wide array of room sizes, from 38 sqm Deluxe Rooms to 122 sqm Suites. Thanks to its unique structure, none of the guest rooms looks the same. The hotel has four 250 sqm function halls that can be combined into a one big ballroom. In addition, there are VIP function rooms, meeting rooms, a 100-seat all-day dining restaurant, juice bar, Kids Club lounge, gym, spa, swimming and kiddie pool, musholla and drivers room.
This business resort hotel applied modern contemporary design to create a semi-formal ambiance that can be enjoyed by both business and leisure travellers. To emphasise the elongated configuration of the hotel building, geometric patterns have been used in the building façade, such as vertical panels on the building skin.
Hadiprana applied the cultural heritage style of Palembang in the interior, as seen in the free-standing walls in the main building, decorated with Palembang songket patterns. Tanjung, the famous floral motif of Palembang has been used in several public areas and rooms, including lattice concrete, ventilation blocks, carpets, marble floor patterns as well as wall and ceiling finishes. Up to 80 per cent of the hotel development used local products and materials, with Hadiprana successfully searching out new creative products and solutions, including the rattan weaving used for interior decorations.
“In addition to the magnificent hotel design, the spacious landscape and generous facilities, the location of Hotel Santika Premiere Bandara Palembang is very strategic and suitable as a four-star hotel, because this hotel is the only resort business hotel with such a close location to Palembang’s International Airport—Sultan Mahmud Badarrudin II”, says general manager Ida Bagus Gede Suambara.
Hotel Santika Premiere Bandara Palembang has recently hosted athletes and officials from the 2018 Asian Games. Next in the hotel’s event agenda is their grand opening, scheduled for mid-November 2018.
