ME by Melia: Zaha Hadid’s Latest Project

When it comes to quality or quantity, Melia Hotels International is indeed a champion of the former. The Spanish hospitality group only offers the best and it's evident in their choice of designer for their most recent development.

Melia Hotels International has developed a personality-led lifestyle brand called ME by Meliá in 2004. With this brand, the group explores local tastes in order to captivate clientele with a love for contemporary art and design, international cuisine and world music. Started from London, the brand has continued to sprout in places like Cabo, Ibiza, Madrid, Mallorca, Miami and Milan. Most recently, this concept has graced Dubai.

While ME London was designed by Foster + Partners and ME Milan by Aldo Rossi’s, ME Dubai is also designed by starchitect – none other than the late Zaha Hadid, the only female Pritzker Prize award winner in history. Hadid not only designed the skin of the iconic building, but also devised the interior.

The hotel lobby/plaza is designed with Hadid’s iconic organic style. One corner of the building will be decorated like a waterfall. Hadid topped this room with a raindrops chandelier to compliment to “fluid” corner-less design.

The hotel is located inside the 95-metre high Opus Building in the heart of Burj Khalifa district, Hadid’s first building in the United Arab Emirates. It will have 93 luxurious guest bedrooms in 19 floors and 98 serviced apartments, with dramatic ambience and thoughtful designed by the design guru. The hotel is set to open this year.
